The Commissioning Specialist for Test and Balance is responsible for verifying that mechanical systems, including HVAC systems, operate according to design specifications and perform optimally. This role ensures that the systems are properly tested, balanced, and commissioned to meet quality standards, regulatory codes, and energy
efficiency goals.

Field Functional Performance Testing:

  • Conduct field testing on HVAC systems and lighting systems, and system performance.
  • Use specialized instruments to measure air and water flow, temperature, pressure, and other system parameters.
  • Adjust system components to ensure the system performs to design specifications

Collaboration and Coordination:

  • Work closely with engineers, contractors, and building owners to ensure systems are properly installed and functioning.
  • Collaborate with the project team to troubleshoot system issues and recommend improvements or corrections.

  • Serve as a liaison between the commissioning team and the project team to ensure timelines are met.

Commissioning:

Commissioning:

  • Review mechanical system designs, submittals, and operational data to ensure they meet project specifications.
  • Oversee the commissioning of HVAC systems and other building mechanical systems to ensure proper operation and integration.
  • Ensure all required documentation, including test reports, is completed accurately.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Maintain thorough records of all commissioning activities.
  • Prepare and deliver comprehensive reports on system performance and deficiencies.
  • Update system manuals and operational guides, as necessary.

Qualifications

Qualifications

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Certified Commissioning Technician  (ACG)
  • Certified Technician in Testing, Adjusting, and Balancing  AABC
    (Associated Air Balance Council), or equivalent.
  • Experience with HVAC system testing and balancing.
  • Familiarity with commissioning processes and documentation standards.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to use commissioning software and balancing tools.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work in various environments, including construction sites.
  • Comfortable working at heights and in confined spaces.

Work Environment:

  • Primarily on-site at construction projects or existing building systems.
  • Regular fieldwork with some office-based tasks, such as reporting and coordination.
